Hello members!
This guide here will give you some handy tip that will help you create a character that is acceptable. On this site we don't expect a lot from you, but we do expect you to be able to create a character that fits into his or hers environment. In short we want something real, and relatable. No magic or the ability to fly or to be that super hero. We want characters that are realistic.
Hopefully this guide will help you, an if you have any questions- or are just stuck on ideas and what not- just PM me or any other staff member and we will help you out the best we can!
Your App
i. When writing a character be weary of typos and basic grammar and punctuation. Write your bio on a word document and run spell check though it, or even just re-read it out loud, to make sure that minor errors are fixed.
ii. Bio's are not to be just a list of qualities. We expect full sentences.
iii. Must meet the require meet of two paragraphs for appearance, 3 for personality and three for history. If these requirements are not meet the bio will not be accepted.
Below is the format. Some tips will be provided to help you beef out those paragraphs.
Name:
Gender:
Age: (beware that if your character is below 16 that when he/she comes of age they will have to participate in a site wide aptitude testing and choosing ceremony then participate in initiate training.)
Faction: (Factions include: Erudite, Abnegation, Candor, Amity, Dauntless and the Factionless.) When choosing your faction, remember the behaviour and social expectations of that faction. If you are going to make a rebel character he/she would not be expected to live in abnegation or amity. If you were to make a shy character with many fears they would not be expected to be part of Dauntless. Just keep these factors in mind when constructing the rest of your character.
Appearance: (2 paragraphs.) When you look at a picture, the image can tell us a lot about the person appearance. But there are also things that the image doesn't tell us- these things will help you beef out those paragraphs. For example an image cant tell us how tall a person is. When roleplaying this can be a very important factor of a persons appearance as there height may effect how other people see them compared to the way that they want to be see as an individual.
No one is perfect. This means that everyone has there flaws. Tell us about some bruises or scars or marks that your character may have on their body. Tell us how they got them, what they mean, and how they affect your character. This give us background information based on your character.
Does your character have crooked teeth? Are some missing or are they yellow?
Eye colour? When your considering eye colour don't just tell us that there eyes are blue. "Her eyes are like the colour of the ocean, they consume me until I am no longer sure that I am staring at her, or into her very being."
How does your character stand? A lot can be told about the way your character stands. Do they stand tall and proud? Or are they haunched over slightly?
See there are so many different things that you can add to your characters appearance that can tell us so much about them. So think outside the box, experiment. Have fun with them!
Personality: (3 paragraphs.) When writing the personality of your character there are many things to think about that will help you beef out your paragraphs. Think about your characters mental state: Are they sad? Happy? Unstable? Do they have a mental disorder? Things as simple as this will effect how you shape the rest of your character. The personality should also include things that your character may like, or dislike. Odd habits maybe, r something that defines the character as unique.
Think about how your character feels about the world around them. Are they happy with this world that they live in? Do they like their faction or are they hoping to escape from it when the time comes? Or if they are older are they proud of there decision- if they are: why? If they are not: why? How does your character feel about there family? Parents? Brother sisters?
What is your character good at? here strengths and weaknesses.
Again just remember that no one is perfect and your character will need to have a few flaws before it can be accepted.
History: (3 paragraphs.) In the history tell us about your character. Give us some background information about them. If they were in a different faction before the choosing ceremony- tell us about it. If something traumatic has happened in their life that has affected them greatly: tell us about it. We want to know. We want to know where they were born, if they have family and if they do have family what are the family members like- are you close to them? Are you loving and caring towards each other?
If they are part of the factionless tell us how they came to be there. We want to know everything you could possible tell us about your character, so please tell us.
Just remember to keep it realistic and believable.
Other: If you have anything extra you want to tell us, just post it here. These comments are usually out of character and optional.
